 | New Business:
Proposed letter to the Diocese of Camden
Our president, Tom Iacovone is proposing that we, the GCHS Alumni Board write a letter introducing ourselves to our new Bishop, Bishop Joseph Gall ante. Points of concern are:
1. We make it known that we have an active association with a vested interest in GCHS and the name of Gloucester Catholic High School.
2. We are seeking information that will help us in directing our organization to go forward to the next level.
Tom Iacovone suggested that we ask Bill Pop joy to draft a letter and present it at our November meeting. Tony Silvestri questions what we would do differently if a decision for a new high school is made by the diocese in four months, or four years from now. Neil McPeak suggested that we must have firm purposes in mind because that will encourage benefactors.
|
 | Communion Breakfast- The annual Alumni Mass and breakfast will be held on November 7th in the GCHS gym. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Suggestions for speakers are NJ state senator Mike Madden, a 1972 GCHS graduate nominated by Al Radano, and Mike Bowe, a GCHS grad and local radio personality nominated by Cathy Coughlin.
Tom Iacovone gave a brief review of the annual awards.
O'Donnell Award-goes to GCHS graduate
Dr and Mrs. Kelly Award-the recipient does pot have to be a GCHS graduate but must be a friend of GCHS who has given his/her time and or talents to help the school.
Thomas Stewart Award-is given to someone who is outstanding in a service industry such as fire, police, medical, or related field.
Previous award winners' names are displayed on plaques in Alumni Hall. Please send your nominations to Tom Iacovone by October 20th.

|
 | Tom Iacovone gave an overview of the new committees. Anyone
desiring to change their committee membership please notifies Pat Murphy. Individual committees may meet whenever or as often as necessary or by conference call etc. Starting with our November meeting individual committees will give a report on current activity.
|
 | Pat Barker asked if we approach the parents association for new members. Be suggested making a vehicle for this such as associate alumni members.
|
 | Dan Spencer asked about the new system which Camden Catholic and Paul VI high schools are utilizing which names a president of the school.
Ed Beckett replied that it is a board of governors and that the President is the CEO of the school and he does the hiring and firing. John Colman explained that Bishop Galante
wants to evaluate this system. Joe Murphy suggested that we should
consider talking with folks at Roman Catholic regarding their
recent experience in preserving their school. Principal John
Colman reported that over the summer the gym was painted and a
huge American flag was painted on the back wall by the Art
Department. Tile work was done gratuitous in the bathrooms outside
the cafeteria. A new two year teacher’s contract was signed

- Contributions to the Alumni Association are deductible
Mike Bonner made note of the fact that we are in the process of not only changing the structure of the by-laws, but also making new by-laws at the same time. He reported that 70-80% of the work is completed, but the mechanics need to be solidified.
Mike Bonner and Ed Beckett presented the following for discussion and vote by the board.
- Staggering {alternating} the board by allowing 2 consecutive terms of 3 years each. Imposing a two-term limit. After serving 2 terms, the board member would retire from the position for a minimum of 1 year.
- Requirements for voting to pass: Simple majority versus quorum. Simple majority will consist of 66 2/3 to 75% of the votes by those present. Quorum will require a minimum number of board members/directors to be present for the vote.
The board voted for a staggering board with no fewer than 20 members and no more than 40 members.
Other options suggested were to have a past president and two at large board members.
