Alumni Communion Breakfast

Alumni and friends of Gloucester Catholic High School will be honored on Sunday, November 20, during the annual Communion Breakfast.

The Alumni Association is pleased to announce the following award winners to be honored:

Special Awards:

  • John and Jackie O’Donnell Award - (This award is given annually to a graduate of Gloucester Catholic who demonstrates generous service to the Gloucester Catholic school community) Recipient: Larry Reader, ‘58 Larry is a graduate of the class of 1958 and has remained connected to Gloucester Catholic throughout the years. Larry and his wife Barbara (class of 1960) were an integral part of the founding of the Alumni Association in the early 1980s. Larry had a very successful career at Rowan University, rising to the position of Vice President, and upon retirement began working for the Camden Diocese, where he still labors tirelessly today.
  • Dr. Frank & Catherine Kelly Award - (This award is given annually to a friend of GCHS who through their good work brings honor and recognition to the school) Recipient: Tony Powers Although Tony is not a true alumnus of GCHS, he has been affiliated with GCHS in many capacities over the years dating back to the early 1970s. He has served over 35 years at GCHS as a teacher, head basketball coach, and assistant basketball coach in two different eras, and as Assistant Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and Guidance Counselor.
  • Thomas Stewart III Award - (This is awarded to a Gloucester Catholic graduate that demonstrates selfless commitment and extraordinary service to the greater community. Recipient: Thomas Citro, ‘54 As a long-time resident of Springfield, Pa., Citro has been a member of the Springfield Lions Club for 28 years and served as the club’s 50th President. He has served in many other roles for the organization, including First and Second Vice President. He earned his BA degree from St. Bonaventure University and a MA from Villanova.
  • Gloucester Catholic Alumni Association Legacy Award (Given on a random basis to recognize someone who through their dedication and commitment to Gloucester Catholic through the years have left an indelible mark on the Gloucester Catholic Community) Recipients: Leroy Jackson, ’44, and Clare Ward, ‘40 Leroy Jackson is a 1944 graduate of Gloucester Catholic class and through the years has steadfastly supported GCHS. He had been a regular on the sidelines at the Gloucester Catholic football games for many years and had nine children attend GCHS. Clare Ward graduated Gloucester Catholic in 1940 and was a fixture at the school during all eight of her children’s careers at GCHS. She was active in the PTA and still is a huge fan and follows all events at GCHS closely today.

The Mass begins at 9:00 am followed by breakfast. Both events will be held in the Msgr. Lucitt Hall. Tickets are $12.00 and can be purchased from Anne Barron at (856) 456-4400.

Annual Alumni Golf Tournament

The annual Fr. Sullivan Alumni Golf Tournament.

cars on a highway This year’s tournament was held at the Pitman Golf Club on Monday, June 13th. Registration began at 12 noon. A putting contest preceded the 1:30 shotgun start. As usual, our format was best ball of foursome.

This golf tournament is named for Rev. John Sullivan who spent over twenty years of his life serving the Gloucester Catholic community. “Sully” was a friend to all who came in contact with him. We name the tournament in his honor to carry on the spirit of commitment that he gave to Gloucester Catholic. New GCHS Alumni Scholarships

Giving back to GCHS to keep the tradition alive.

This past school year the Alumni Office was pleased to announce the establishment of four new scholarships:

  • The Doris Underwood Memorial Scholarship sponsored by Michelle Lanciano ‘81 and family
  • The Ginger Dougherty Scholarship sponsored by her son Joe McComb ‘89
  • The Scott Kaplan Memorial Scholarship establish by a friend of the family
  • Finally the children of Robert Keenan have established a scholarship in his name.

Alumni scholarship are a wonderful way to honor living and deceased family members. To establish a scholarship please contact Pat Murphy at the alumni office (856-456-4400 ext. 219).

GCHS Reunion News

News related to upcoming reunions of GCHS alumni.

  • The Class of 1956 invites classmates to get together on the second Wednesday of every other month. For details for September, contact Alice Smith at qgrum@comcast.net or phone 856-848-1353. 
  • The Class of 1961 will celebrate its 50th reunion on November 12, 2011 at The Double Tree Inn, 525 Fellowship Road Mt. Laurel, NJ. For more information or reservations please call Helen [Nellie] Parker Finan at 609-654-7448 or Anne Houwen McHenry at 856-779-3203.

GCHS Rams on the Reef

Rams on the Reef - an annual "reunion" held down the shore and open to all graduates of GCHS.

Rams on the Reef was held in North Wildwood at Flip Flops Beach Bar & Grill on Saturday, August 13, 2011 from 2-7 pm. $35 at the door included food, beer and soda, and reduced prices on bottled beer and drinks.
