Principally Speaking...

Gloucester Catholic is a high energy place. This school is alive with learning, laughter and accomplishment, almost 24/7. And despite the
inconvenience of bad weather, the winter season was rich with activities that fuel the passion so many of us feel for Gloucester Catholic.
Ram pride was on display in December when the 1979 Lady Rams basketball team gathered for a reunion in the gym. Not even an impending
blizzard dampened the spirit of this phenomenal group of talented women who made history winning four consecutive state championships.
Special thanks to Annette Angelotti Reiter ’79 for planning the event.
Another nostalgic get-together was the 40th reunion of the 1970 state basketball champs. Rams from throughout the nation returned to
Cumberland Street in February to reminisce about the Dribble Team, “Think Day” and the coaching expertise of Ralph Saquella ’59. It was a
terrific day!
While reunions reflected the greatness of the “old days”, young Rams also made crowds cheer this season. It was like David meeting Goliath
when the GC ice hockey team defeated powerhouse Christian Brothers Academy. While not coming out on top, Gloucester Catholic did make it to
the state finals…not bad for a team still new to the GCHS scene.
GCHS also made headlines when Coach Lisa Angelotti Gedaka ’84 reached 400 wins at the helm of the Lady Rams basketball team. With strong
physical play and the power of the Bleacher Creatures behind him, Coach Todd Powers led his team to the Tri-County Division Title and the
Parochial B semi-finals. The Gloucester County Times named our swim team the “2010 Team of the Year” and senior Sean McCall, for the third
year in a row, was named the
Times “Swimmer of the Year”.
Congratulations to all of these
Rams!
Once again GCHS artists
stole the show at the Rutgers
Teen Arts Festival. Six of our
students won state honors and
nine capped county honors, the
most of any school delegation
at the event. Congratulations
to our teachers, Mrs. Kathy
Schilling and Mr. Dave Sipple, on
their fine preparation of these
students. Kudos to the GCHS
Forensic Team who finished the
season with a strong showing
at the Diocesan Invitational.
Three of our students, Siobhan
McGirl, Brian Kutza and
Amarachi Akwarandu, will represent the Diocese of Camden at the national competition in Omaha, Nebraska during Memorial Day weekend.
I want to take this opportunity to extend special thanks to our Basket Auction Committee, under the able direction of Maureen Crocker, Mary Ann
Nunes and Denise Reed. The successful evening reflected long hours of hard work and raised a substantial sum for our tuition assistance fund. I
am very grateful.
Signs of spring are all over campus: drama students prepare for this year’s musical “Footloose”; college acceptance letters have arrived, and
seniors prepare for the prom and class trip to Disney World. The spring sports season is underway and our Rams look strong. As Gloucester
Catholic’s principal, I am always proud.
I send my best wishes for an enjoyable spring!
