Ram Alum Fahy Joins the Royals

Casey Fahy joins Royals organization as scout.

After five years coaching on the collegiate level, former Ram standout Casey Fahy has joined the Kansas City Royals as the Mid-Atlantic region scout.

"I spent one year as a teacher and it wasn't the best fit for me," Fahy said. "Once I got into coaching, there's not much more I could see myself doing outside of baseball."

Instead of marking term papers, Casey now evaluates ballplayers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Washington D.C. and South Jersey. Early in the season, he scouted high school, junior college and college players. After the MLB Draft in June, the former Ram began pro coverage, evaluating other organization's minor-league talent to help the Royals front office in trade decisions.

Casey’s career has advanced quickly. He started as a coach at the University of Delaware, his alma mater, in 2004, before taking a job at Siena the following year. He then coached at Temple University from '06-'08 before leaving for Winthrop, where he spent 19 days with the program before taking a job with the Royals last October.

Neilio earned the recognition for leading the Glassboro High Bulldogs to the South Jersey Group 1 title for the second straight year. He gave much of the praise for his success to his dad, Herb Neilio Sr., a youth football coach for better than 50 years.

Dave Martin ‘66 was inducted into the South Jersey Baseball Hall of Fame by the Hot Stover Baseball Club of South Jersey. A four year varsity player for the Rams, he batted .334 and won more than 20 games as a four-year pitcher before heading to Southern Illinois. After college, Dave signed as a free agent with the San Francisco Giants and spent a season at Decatur in “A” ball. He spent 32 years coaching at Cherry Hill High School East, retiring after the 2005 season with more than 500 career wins.

Joe Henry ’78 was named to the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame. Joe was captain of the Ram soccer and wrestling teams before heading to Glassboro State. In college, he began his career as a wrestling official and has worked at all levels throughout the state. In 1996, his peers honored him as the South Jersey Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association “Official of the Year”. Joe and his wife, Joanne, have three children and live in West Deptford.

Dominic Carrera ’69 will be inducted into the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame on March 24th at Auletto’s Caterers in Almonesson. Dominic earned All-South Jersey honors two straight seasons while scoring 1,507 career points for the Rams. He went on to Glassboro State College and amassed 1,147 career points and then became a successful high school and basketball coach.

Mandy Moraca

Mandy Moraca ’05 capped a memorable collegiate career on December 7 helping the Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina beat top-ranked Notre Dame, 2-1, in the championship game of the NCAA Women’s College Cup.

The win marked Carolina’s 19th NCAA title and 20th national crown overall and was the second of Moraca’s career following the 2006 championship. Mandy’s college career also includes four ACC titles. “I was so excited, mainly because it was my senior year,” said Mandy, a reserve midfielder who played 17 minutes in the final. “I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my career. “

An honor roll student at GCHS, Mandy was honored as an Adidas Youth All-American and Adidas High School All American in 2004. She received All-State, All-South Jersey, All-Parochial and All-Tri County honors three times. She was the Gloucester County Times “Player of the Year” and received the high school coaches “Most Courageous Award” after a senior year injury. Mandy was named to the 2004 Associated Press and Newark Star Ledger First Tam All-State squads. Mandy, a three year varsity letter winner, is back in Chapel Hill finishing up her semester of classes and looking to take the next step in her soccer career. Hall of Famers

Three GCHS Alums named to Camden County Sports Hall of Fame.

Three Gloucester Catholic athletic stand-outs were inducted into the Camden County Sports Hall of Fame at a dinner and ceremony on October 18 at Savoy Catering in Pennsauken. Theresa MeGlade Lombardi, Diane Nolan Breslin and Joe Fields were among 14 new members honored at the event.

Diane Nolan Breslin ‘69, Assistant Woman’s Basket-bail Coach at Yale University, is the daughter of legendary Gloucester Catholic coach, the late Mrs. Bert Nolan. Diane has been a head basketball coach for 33 years at the collegiate level at Saint Francis College (NY) and Fairfield University. She is one of only 32 NCAA Division I coaches to have compiled more than 500 career wins, and currently ranks 27111 all-time with 517 victories. Diane is also a member of the Al Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey Hall of Fame.

Theresa MeGlade Lombardi ‘79, helped the Lady Rams win four state girls’ basketball championships, while becoming the only player in New Jersey to start on four straight title teams. She was a three-time All South Jersey selection and was the 1979 Courier-Post “Player of the Year”. An outstanding rebounder, Theresa was a 1,000 point scorer. She was later a star player at San Diego State where she was team captain for two seasons. Theresa is also a member of the Al Carino Basketball Club of South Jersey.

Joe Fields ‘79, starred for both the Rams and the Widener College football programs before beginning his career as center for the New York Jets in the National Football League. Joe spent 13 seasons with the team and served as captain for nine years. He was an “All-Pro” for four seasons and was voted into the Jets’ “All Time Team” in 1990.
