Course Description
Biology is the study of living organisms. This laboratory course
focuses on the principles of cell biology, genetics and ecology,
exploring diversity through the 6 kingdoms of life, and gives a
brief overview of invertebrates and vertebrates. This general course
will help to prepare students for Chemistry, Anatomy and AP Biology.
Requirements
- Students will receive a state book and a
laboratory manual.
- Students will need at least a 3-subject notebook having a
folder pocket or a separate folder (this notebook will only be
used for Biology) in which their notes, homework assignments and
handouts will to be kept. Key terms will be completed for each
chapter.
- Biology labs are completed weekly, and lab reports will
typically be due at the end of the lab period. When assigned
specific lab reports will need to be typed and handed in by the
next class.
- Students will need to follow the classroom rules outlined
below.
Classroom Rules
- Respect yourself and others
- Remain quiet during announcements or when someone else is
speaking.
- Come to class prepared and ready to work. Your grade will be
lowered if you are not prepared for class.
- Follow safety rules particularly on lab days.
- All work needs to be made up if absent. Check “Homework
Live” or see me the following day for assignment. It is your
responsibility to make sure you get credit for work missed.
- 100% credit will be given to homework completed for the due
date and 50% for 1 day late. No credit will be given after that
point.
- Work must be your own. Cheating will not be tolerated.
- Remain in your seat until dismissed.
Extra Help
Extra help will be available after school on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Please let me know at least one day in advance if you
intend to stay.
Grading
QUARTER: 50% Tests/Projects/lab report average, 25% Quizzes,
25% Homework
SEMESTER: 40% Quarter Grade (1 or 3), 40% Quarter Grade (2 or 4),
20% Semester Exam
FINAL: 50% Semester 1 Grade, 50% Semester 2 Grade.
