Our textbook is America: Pathways to the Present.
These are brand-new books. Keep them covered and looking new.
YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BRING YOUR TEXTBOOK TO CLASS EVERY DAY
SINCE WE WILL BE READING SELECTIONS AND EXAMINING MATERIAL ON A
REGULAR BASIS. PERIODIC TEXTBOOK CHECKS WILL TAKE PLACE, WITH POINTS
BEING EITHER ADDED OR DEDUCTED FROM YOUR GRADE.
Grading
Your grade for each quarter will be evaluated on the following:
Absences
If you are absent for any reason, it is your responsibility to obtain the notes and assignments you have missed from your fellow students.
Any missed homework assignments will be due the day after you return to school.
Any quizzes or tests you have missed will be made up within one week of your return.
Homework Policy
Students are expected to have homework completed the day after it
is assigned, unless instructed otherwise. Students who are absent
shall hand in the assignment the day of their return to school.
Students are permitted to e-mail me their homework assignment by
11:59 p.m. on the due date and receive full credit. My e-mail
address is kheil@gchsrams.org. Because I accept homework via e-mail,
there is absolutely no credit given for a late assignment, nor the
opportunity to make up an assignment. RUNNING OUT OF INK CARTRIDGES,
PRINTERS BREAKING, COMPUTER VIRUSES, OR HARD DRIVES CRASHING ARE NOT
LEGITIMATE EXCUSES. IF YOUR COMPUTER AT HOME ISN’T WORKING, WE HAVE
DOZENS HERE AT SCHOOL!!!
Extra Credit Policy
Extra credit is available solely upon my discretion if I deem it warranted, and upon request of the student. To be eligible for extra credit, the student must be making a conscientious effort toward his/her studies, be on time and prepared for class, and have at least 85 percent of homework assignments turned in on time.
As an added extra credit option for everyone, you may also read a recent New York Times Bestseller,
To America, written by Stephen E. Ambrose, which explores personal reflections of an American historian on important events in American history. For this extra credit assignment, you must write a book report at least 7 full pages in length, after which I reserve the right to question you about various aspects of the book.
If you wish to complete the "To America" assignment,
you will be entitled to an automatic half-grade "bump" in your class
grade for the marking period in which you prepare the book report and
submit it to me. (Example, a B+ becomes an automatic A.)
